FAQ

ACUPUNCTURE

How does Acupuncture work?

This ancient and complex healing modality is part of the Traditional Chinese Medical paradigm and works by activating the nervous system triggering the body’s innate healing response. Thin needles are placed in acupuncture points lying along energetic pathways throughout our body with the goal of stimulating the circulation of Qi, or energy, that flows within. It is when the Qi is not flowing that disharmony and illness can occur. Acupuncture works to re-establish optimal movement within these meridians to effectively bring the body back into a balanced state.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture should not hurt and is considered by most to be very relaxing. However, there are a variety of therapeutic sensations that can be felt during a treatment. Common sensations include heaviness, a dull ache, tingling and warmth.

How many treatments do I need?

Duration of treatment depends on the individual, the nature of their condition and their health goals. Similar to exercise, the effects of Acupuncture are cumulative so consistency is key when beginning treatment. A typical course of treatment can range between 8-12 treatments for optimal results and once symptoms have resolved monthly maintenance is recommended.

How do I prepare for an Acupuncture treatment?

A small meal is recommended within 1-2 hours prior to treatment and loose fitting clothes are optimal as we may need to access areas on your abdomen, upper legs and back - that’s it!

FACIAL ACUPUNCTURE

How does facial acupuncture work?

Facial Acupuncture is a painless, non-invasive & all natural treatment using controlled needling to target fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, puffiness, acne, dull skin and more. This treatment works by creating a micro-trauma in the skin which triggers collagen production and increased circulation of Qi and Blood to the desired area.

What does facial acupuncture treat?

In addition to reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, facial acupuncture can be used to brighten complexion, reduce puffiness, acne, hyperpigmentation, redness, dryness, uneven skin tone and can also help with conditions such as jaw tension, TMJD, headaches and more!

How many treatments do I need?

For optimal results and depending on your goals, age and overall lifestyle, treatments are generally recommended 1-2 times per week for a total of 5-10 treatments.

When should I avoid facial acupuncture?

While facial acupuncture treatments are non-invasive and safe in most cases, it is not recommended for those who experience the following:

  • High blood pressure

  • Pregnant or actively trying to conceive

  • Chronic migraines - while uncommon, for those who suffer from frequent migraine headaches, facial acupuncture could potentially trigger symptoms due to increased circulation to the head and face

Facial acupuncture may be scheduled 2 weeks following injectables such as Botox and 4 weeks following cosmetic fillers like Juvaderm and Restaylane.

CUPPING THERAPY

What is cupping?

Like Acupuncture, cupping therapy has been used for thousands of years as part of the Traditional Chinese Medical paradigm. Glass cups are placed on the body using fire for suction. The cups can be moved around, left stationary or both depending on what is being treated.

What does cupping treat?

Cupping therapy is most well known for its ability to treat pain conditions and alleviate muscle tension. Additional benefits include promoting systemic circulation, increasing lymphatic drainage, fighting colds and flus and supporting digestive issues.

Does cupping hurt?

Cupping does not hurt! Think of it like a reverse massage. Instead of applying downward pressure the suction created with cupping works to lift the soft tissues creating space for increased circulation and accelerated tissue repair. It provides great relief.
